A Quick Look at your Mini Pen Interview Recorder
Starting your Mini Pen Interview Recorder
Step 1:
Press the switch, it begins to kinescope as soon as being turned on. The blue light will turn on during kinescoping.
Step 2:
Press the switch again, it will begin to save data and then turn off, at this time, the light turns to yellow, reflect that the pen DVR is at sleeping status(that means do not kinescope or shut down neither).
Step 3:
If need to kinescope again, press the switch once more, then can come back to kinescope , during this time ,the light will turn to blue again.
Step 4:
Hold down the switch for 5s , then the power switch is off ,after shutting down the pen DVR , there is no guide light.
Step 5:
When finish charging the battery , the light stops glittering and the yellow light keeps on ,which means that battery is fully charged.
Step 7:
It will turn off itself when the battery has been used up. And will save the kinescoped files before automatically shutting down.

Connect to PC with USB cable
1. Connect the machine to the computer with USB cable. The machine is in the state of charging while the yellow light is twinking.(You can also directly charge the camera using an adaptor accorded with the specifications of USB).Charging 2 hours is necessary.
2. Function as removable disk when connect the camera to PC, playback the video files stored flash via the computer.(Free download the BAOFENGYINGYIN software from the http://www.baofeng.com).

Q : Can the video file which is recording be stored if the battery is out suddenly during using?
A : Don’t worry . if the battery use off suddenly it will store the recording video files before it turns off.

Hi,
A friend recently got an email to download a file called BaoFeng_exe from File front site
http://files.filefront.com/BaoFengexe/;8229577;/fileinfo.html.
I was told to just copy it over to the pen Root directory.
You can also install it on your PC
Also there is an Update for the SpyPen camcorder

The software update to the DVR pen allows two things:
1. A way to put a time/date stamp on the video
2. Update the DVR Pen to record longer than the battery life for applications where they were connected to a larger battery
If you want to remove the time/date stamp, download the update above and unstuff it. Plug in the Pen DVR and locate it on the PC.
Unstuff the file and there are two files that you will drag over to the pen. called “Magic.bin” and “AkResData.Bin”.
Go to the lower right tray and click “Remove Hardware” to eject the Pen DVR. Turn it off and turn it on again. It should remove the date/time stamp.

The Avi movie files from my Spypen plays very well in VLC but not at all in Window Media Player 9.
What I would like to know is there a Program where u can increase the Frame rate from 15Fps to 30fps and also increase the resolution from 340×288 to 640×480.? As my pen seems to actually record at 12Fps. I paid US_$110 and dont want to spend any more $$$, since I was told that there is a pen that records 30fps and 640×480 Resolution.

The instructions are incomplete.
The pen was supposed to work with win98se but it does not.
Everything needed to use the pen was supposed to be included on the CD that came with it but the CD only includes the same incomplete instructions in broken English that were on the paper in the box. Why didn’t they include the software on the CD like they were supposed to?
How are you supposed to get the software to use it on a stand alone windows 98se computer?
Baofeng.com is not in English what are you supposed to do if you only speak English?
Questions that need to be answered in unbroken understandable English:
1. Does the pen need to be charged before it can be used the first time?
2. How do you charge it and how do you know when it has finished charging?
3. What does kinoscope mean and what happens in kinoscope mode?
4. What does record mean and what happens in record mode?
5. What does the reset hole do and how do you use it? It is just a hole! How do you access it to use it?
6. When you plug it into the computer it gives you alot of computer nonsense and says that the export file is missing. What does this mean?
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I got some little black thing that also appears to be part of the pen at the end there is some king of usb adapter, but it does not fit into the pc does anyone know what it is.

China Trade, Please reply to this email. The video pen manual does not mention an download. I connected the pen to my PC by the USB. It would not recognize it. From the CD I downloaded KMPlayer.exe. While the CD was in it showed a type of media player. I close window and removed the CD. I attempted twice t connect the pen, but each time it would not recognize my pen.
On the CD it also said somethng about using the FAT format and it said to download BAOFENGYINGFIN software, but it did not give a download site. Form reading about BAOFENGYINGFIN it is in Chinese and I need it in English, if I need it at all.
What do I hve to do to get my PC to recognize the pen and what software do I nee and where do I get the software from and how do I run the software?

I got one of these in october/2008. After five months of almost no use it is gone. The image is poor and the sound is almost useless. One file in the codec pack (baofeng) is detected as a virus. Since there is no information about the manufacturer… I will never buy another chinese cr…p again. Now, all I have is just a slow, expensive and unreliable flash drive.

Like most on this post the software is in Chinese how do i get it in english I would ask all the buyers who got the pen on ebay to write to ebay and ask ebay to stop selling the pen untill they can get it to work in English I am sure if they stop selling the pen we will soon have a site in English

To change the date use the instructions in the ZIP download way on top in the first posts. I tried it and it works.
Agreed sound is crap and not in synch with the image. But hey, this is a spy pen not a full HD 500$ Sony digicam. For spying stuff and proof collection it does its job.
If the zip above no longer works. Put in th eroot dir of the pen a file named userconfig.txt.
In the file write one single line with date and time in the following format: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS (in 24h format, NO am/pm). Eject device (safe removal). Turn off. Turn on. File should be gone and internal clock at the correct time.
In fact it has no internal clock, the clock only runs while the pen is turned on. You have to do this all over for each time you use it and if timestamps matter for you.

Listen guys, you don’t need the baofeng software, english or otherwise. Just use a free media player such as vlc ( http://www.videolan.org/vlc ) to view the video files you have recorded.

I tried the software from the zip. I put the two VLC files on the pen. Then I disconnected. Then I turned it off and on, and then reconnected it to the PC. Then I copied the userconf.txt into the root directory (my pen has one folder on it called VIDEO). Followed the instructions, but the file did not disappear and no changes occurred. What am I doing wrong? As for the software, its in Chinese, so why sell this product to the English? Anyone who can help please email me jm.clarkson007@btinternet.com

No problem with the 4Gb version, no software need, I simple use it like a usb pen drive viewing files (AVI format) by windows media player.
