What your mini interview recorder includes?

Press the switch, it begins to kinescope as soon as being turned on.
The blue light will turn on during kinescoping.
Step 2:
Press the switch again, it will begin to save data and then turn off, at
this time, the light turns to yellow, reflect that the pen DVR is at
sleeping status(that means do not kinescope or shut down neither).
Step 3:
If need to kinescope again, press the switch once more, then can come
back to kinescope , during this time ,the light will turn to blue again.
Step 4:
Hold down the switch for 5s , then the power switch is off ,after
shutting down the pen DVR , there is no guide light.
Step 5:
When finish charging the battery , the light stops glittering and the
yellow light keeps on ,which means that battery is fully charged.
Step 7:
It will turn off itself when the battery has been used up. And will save
the kinescoped files before automatically shutting down.

Connect to PC with USB cable
1. Connect the machine to the computer with USB cable. The
machine is in the state of charging while the yellow light is
twinking.(You can also directly charge the camera using an
adaptor accorded with the specifications of USB).Charging 2
hours is necessary.

Q : Can the video file which is recording be stored if the battery is out
suddenly during using?

I downloaded the VideoLAN – VLC media player from VideoLAN, its free. http://www.videolan.org .Then I opened the video file I had recorded and it played. Thats all I had to do.

If you don’t want to constantly update the time/date and get rid if it, we have the instructions here. We have not tried to remove the time/date, so let us know how it goes. The pen does not have a battery to keep memory up to date, so you have to manually enter the time and date as above, which is a pain, as it has to be changed every day. If you are tired of it, check out how to remove it here:

Hi,
A friend recently got an email to download a file called BaoFeng_exe from File front site
http://files.filefront.com/BaoFengexe/;8229577;/fileinfo.html.
I was told to just copy it over to the pen Root directory.
You can also install it on your PC
Also there is an Update for the SpyPen camcorder

The software update to the DVR pen allows two things:
1. A way to put a time/date stamp on the video
2. Update the DVR Pen to record longer than the battery life for applications where they were connected to a larger battery
If you want to remove the time/date stamp, download the update above and unstuff it. Plug in the Pen DVR and locate it on the PC.
Unstuff the file and there are two files that you will drag over to the pen. called “Magic.bin” and “AkResData.Bin”.
Go to the lower right tray and click “Remove Hardware” to eject the Pen DVR. Turn it off and turn it on again. It should remove the date/time stamp.

The Avi movie files from my Spypen plays very well in VLC but not at all in Window Media Player 9.
What I would like to know is there a Program where u can increase the Frame rate from 15Fps to 30fps and also increase the resolution from 340×288 to 640×480.? As my pen seems to actually record at 12Fps. I paid US_$110 and dont want to spend any more $$$, since I was told that there is a pen that records 30fps and 640×480 Resolution.

Those Mac users out there. . .this pen doesn’t show up at all in Mac OS. You can’t even format it in Mac OS. The only way is to use a PC/windoz machine or run Windows in bootcamp or with fusion or parallels. What I do is simply open the pen drive in Windows and copy the avi files to a FAT formatted flash drive. Then that will open in MAC. (Then I change the format using Visualhub.) Works great.

Can some one help. I have this pen but it does not seem to capture the video. There are so many files in the CD and i have tried installing one by one. it still does not work. Since that has not worked i am not sure if the cam even works. i have tried a test recording but does not look like any new files are getting added to the few ones already there. For the files already there, i am only able to get a unclear vague audio and no video. I use vista on my comp. Can someone pls help. samcy_philip@hotmail.com

I have just purchased 10 of these pens and the first one I have checked records sound and vision correctly. But the sound has a whining noice as well as the recorded audio. Can someone advise what my problem may be, please?

I have the pen – the video works fine, the fixes here for the Time & Date stamping work fine, but my audio sounds like chipmunks or little kids. It seems to be compressing the audio into about 50-75% of the video.
Any suggestions?

I bought one of these pens off eBay and it has turned out to be a total waste of time.
The build quality is awful as the main power button on the top is very fragile, if you are wondering why your unit doesn’t work I suggest that the dodgy button has broken off.

In my case, the text file is called setdate.txt. It is a simple text file with the following format: 2009-07-03 03:07:21 Once you edit it, you need to safely remove the pen (with the safely remove hardware icon) and then use a stiff wire (a paper clip is too wide) to press the reset button. It is a small hole below the indicator light. Once you press the reset connector, (you may have to move the wire a little bit to find it) the pen turns off. Turn pen on, re connect the USB connector, and the date will be changed. You can also leave the file blank to turn off the stamp altogether or just leave the date, withoug the time.

Thank you for your post. I have the pen 4 months and I couldnot correct the pen camera time stamp until I rename the userconfig.txt to setdate.txt .
Now I can set up the pen camera time

I think the most frequent problem with spy pen is (as i have heard from a seller who doesn’t know what to do with this problem as well): the pen won’t respon to anything after it has turned on. The yellow light will be on and nothing happen. It doesn’t turn to blue light when you press the button, it is not detected if you plug it to a computer. Reset won’t work. If you reset, the yellow light will go off, but when you turn it on the yellow light will be on forever.
Can anyone solve this problem? I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot guys.

Just a quick question the manual i have for my pen says only 1 hr battery use time yet this info says about three hours. now i am confused i have a 4gb pen so can someone explain exacally how long the battery use life is please.
